P
osted into secret shoebox on Tuesday, April 11, 2006...

rebellious pirate thoughts

darkness, darkness all around,
all filled up to the brink.
darkness, darkness all around,
and plenty of coffee to drink.
i'll have one cup, i'll have one more
til it spills down my chin and onto the floor
and look! what fun! through the door
come plenty more worries to add to the store.

hurrah! i cry - and here's another!
another brother to add to the others.
i'll build a crew of worries and pangs
we'll form an anxiety pirate gang!
upon the deck stirs the crew
i at the middle in my troubles brew
and quietly drown in an unhappy stew
perversely revel in things to rue.

"avast brethren!" one pirate cries -
the one with hollowed out black eyes-
"upon horizon i see lies
the land to which our captain tries
to find - a land we must disguise
the land lest he lose blind for wise."

"What is this noise? what is this mess?"
the pirate horde will not confess
"Just something we must all attack -
a thing you would do well to lack"
"no let me see!" i cry and shout
"turn this stupid boat about!
"who's captain here? me or you?
now turn us round or be run through!"

sheepishly the crew comply
and mutter things like "oh ay ay,
but we don't understand quite why
the captain wishes to defy
his urge to sail seas of despair
- how happy our self pitious sea air
pray, stay, wallow in lonely gore
and try to get ashore no more.

"aha! aho! i see your game!
allow me kindly to explain
the dev'lish method you pursue
to keep me here, my pirate crew;
afraid i'll bolt for pastures new
should fortunes change and good luck brew
you fear one captain less you'll be
should better mood take hold of me"

"well, by hell, you're right you currs!
your twisted talk, your morbid slurs,
i find quite wrong - but what the hey -
i'm used to it now so i think i'll stay."

my pirate crew first stood aghast,
but when i stopped my speech at last
a vibrant roar, a hearty cheer
as my words reached their evil ear.
a cheer, a shout, they rolled about
and went to get the beer kegs out.
"ha haaarrr!" they cried, "ho ho ho ho"
and then added an extra "yo"
"our cap'n, he is in the know,
so with him we will happ'ly go"

and go we did, we wretched knaves,
we happy dolts, we crackpot slaves.
we went and did some going, good.
we go'ed and go'ed from the deck we stood.
we go'ed around and do'ed some things
we go'ed and killed some queens and kings
we killed a lot of annoying folk
and some really big fat bearded bloke.

then we got bored and went back home
tired out from a rather violent roam.
we all sat back and got real slack
we played with the heads in our dead heads sack.
then we all felt sleepy after dancing the tap
and we rounded off the day with a quiet little nap.
